Configuring traffic shaping policies
On vDS, a traffic shaping policy is applied to each port at the port group level. But it's also possible to define specific and granular options at the port level.
You can control ingress or egress traffic (with vSS you can only control egress traffic) in the Traffic shaping menu in the dvPort settings:

There are different settings, as follows:
- Average bandwidth (kbits/s): The number of Kbps to allow, averaged over time.
- Peak bandwidth (kbits/s): The maximum Kbps to allow (when it is sending or receiving a burst of traffic). This number limits the bandwidth during peaks.
- Burst size (KB): Maximum number of bytes to allow in a peak. If this value is set, it's possible to have a burst bonus, limited to the maximum peak value and only the amount of data specified in the burst size.
The bursting "bonus" works in the following mode:
