Monitoring Network I/O Control

To monitor the NIOC settings, you must manage resource allocation under system traffic and, if needed, the network resource pools and VMs settings. You can use the vSphere Web Client in the Networking inventory, select a vDS, choose the Configure tab and go into the Resource Allocation menu.

For the system traffic, some useful metrics and details are the following:

  • Network I/O Control status (the state is Enabled/Disabled)
  • NIOC version
  • Physical network adapters details
  • Available bandwidth capacity
  • Total bandwidth capacity
  • Maximum reservation allowed
  • Configured reservation
  • Minimum link speed

Another option is to monitor the traffic (as described before) or capture the packets with pktcap-uw
